Behold the pettiest bake who waits for no one – the Chocolate Souffle and my corresponding Chocolate Souffle Recipe to set you up for success. Of course, I am not trying to single out just the chocolate flavour, but Souffles on a whole. Afterall, these whimsical Chocolate Souffles will deflate within 5 minutes and you best consume it soon! In fact, you can see me eating them while wearing my mittens because they were still piping hot!

The first thing you must know about these Chocolate Souffles is that it is important to have everything ready before you start. By this, I meant you need your ramekins already coated with butter and sugar. Then, the toppings, trays, and even plating all better be ready.

I always thought it was a myth but who knew. I ended up running between different sections of my house despite thinking that I am all prepared.

The next thing you need to know before making these Chocolate Souffles is clean equipment. Particularly, ensure that your bowl and whisks are well cleaned so that you can whip up the egg whites to the stiff peak stage successfully. This allows the maximum amount of air to be incorporated into these delicate Chocolate Souffles and for them to expand. Not doing this stage well will still result in delicious souffles, albeit flatter.

Finally, don’t scrimp on the sugar, fats or any component! This recipe has been experimented and well-balanced to set you up for success. I have yet to fail using this recipe and I hope it works out for you.

Now, you may wonder if it’s worth making this at all. I thought it wouldn’t before I taste it given all the work, but I was thoroughly impressed. Each bite was so fluffy yet so decadent and not overly sweet. Despite all the hardship I went through, I dare say I will make this again and it truly is worth all the effort! Furthermore, they are still super delicious even when deflated.

Additionally, if you’re looking to amp up your culinary experience, do consider using high quality creams such as French cream! I had a pleasant experience with how luxurious French cream is and how easy it is to whip.

Without further ado, the recipe.

These whimsical and petty Chocolate Souffles wait for no one and deflates in minutes. However, they’re so delicious and worth all the work!

Ingredients

Souffle:

  • 1/3 Cup or 75ml of Whipping Cream (I used French cream)
  • 2 Tbspns + 1 Tsp or 35g of Butter + More for coating ramekins
  • Approx 1/2 Cup + 1 Tbspn or 120g of Dark Chocolate
  • 1 Tsp or 5ml of Vanilla
  • 3 Large Eggs, Separated into Whites and Yolks
  • 1/4 Cup or 55g of White Sugar + More for coating ramekins

Topping:

  • 1/3 Cup or 75ml of Whipping Cream (I used French cream here too!
  • Jam, Cocoa Powder, Icing Sugar to taste

Instructions

Souffle:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees C and coat your ramekins with softened butter first followed by sugar. This allows the souffles to rise nicely without sticking to the sides.
  2. Firstly, melt together the butter and chocolate and set aside to cool for 3 minutes.
  3. Then, whisk in the whipping cream, egg yolks and vanilla.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip the egg whites up until it achieves stiff peaks.
  5. Whisk in 1/6 of the egg white mixture into the chocolate mixture and fold in the remaining 5/6 until well-incorporated.
  6. Distribute the souffle into four portions and bake for 12 – 14 minutes.
  7. In the meanwhile, prepare your toppings such as whipping cream and cocoa powder.
  8. Serve and enjoy once it has been removed from the oven, you have up to 5 minutes before it deflates!
