A dream came through for me with these Matcha Chocolate Chip Cookies. Yes, I know that sounds pretty exaggerated, but it is truthful for I finally found a cookie that matches two of my favourite flavours together!
In these chewy and fudgy Matcha Chocolate Chip Cookies, each bite comes with a pack of melty dark chocolate with a strong hint of Matcha.
You may also be wondering why the excitement for something that seems so basic? Well, is difficult to flavour a bake with Matcha given how sensitive and faint this flavour could be. Furthermore, not all Matcha powders could retain their colour and flavour after the baking process. Hence, I was glad to have found the right proportion of Matcha and the use of culinary Matcha here.
Furthermore, you may also consider substituting the Matcha for Hojicha or Green Tea. I have previously done a Hojicha Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe too!
Here comes the important part of my sharing. While this recipe is rather straightforward, the balancing of flavours is not! You will need to add at least this amount of matcha or more. Additionally, it is not recommended for you to add even more chocolate as they can easily crowd out the faint Matcha flavour.
Otherwise, this Matcha Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe is rather forgiving as you can see from the video.
Without further ado, the recipe!

Your recipe had the wrong measurements for the matcha. 40g of matcha is equivalent to 1/4 cup, not 1/2 cup. The cookie I made tastes bitter because I follow the cup measurements 😢 Not only that I have wasted the matcha, I also have to toss the whole batch because it isn’t as edible as I wish. I hope you can fix this. Thank you
Hi there, thanks for letting me know about this! It is likely that my 1/2 cup wasn’t compressed / fully packed, resulting in a higher volume. I am so sorry to hear about the cookies but wanted to thank you nonetheless for bringing this to my attention. A more accurate measure is likely to be approximately 1/3 cup, and I will be amending this!
