There’s something quietly indulgent and beautiful about the pairing of blakc sesame and banana, one leans towards nutty and bittersweet, while the other soft, fragrant and naturally sweet. Together, they create this Black Sesame Banana Cake that feels both nostalgic and refined, familiar yet elevated in the most effortless way.

This Black Sesame Banana Cake leans into that contrast, not just in flavour but also in texture and visual appeal.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • Naturally moist from ripe banana puree, creating a cake that bakes up soft and tender, with almost pudding-like crumbs!
  • Nutty depth from the black sesame paste, nicely blended into the batter
  • No artificial colouring, the contrast is all natural
  • Visually stunning marbling between the banana and black sesame abtter, making it perfect for gifting
  • Balanced sweetness, not overly sugary with a good balance provided from the black sesame

While it’s completely optional, I strongly recommend for you to divide the batter into two so that you can create two batters with an amazing visual appeal without much effort. I really love this deep richness of the black sesame that contrast and cut through the banana batter.

If you’re planning to bake this in an 8 inch square pan, do note that the cake will turn out slightly shorter. For a taller slice, consider increasing the recipe by 20 – 30% to ensure a generous slice.

Without further ado, the recipe!
