These wholesome Healthier Banana Oat Chocolate Chip Muffins are soft, heaty and perfect for the days you want something a little more wholesome, but still comforting enough to feel like a treat!
Made with ripe bananas, quick oats, yoghurt and a mix of wholemeal and plain flour, these muffins have a lovely natural sweetness and a gently rustic texture. Of course, I also added chocolate chips because a little chocolate always make banana muffins better!
I like to think of these as a more everyday version of banana muffins, suitable for breakfast, tea time, snack boxes or when you have a few overripe bananas sitting on the counter.
And naturally, this forms an episode (#3) for my “Recipe for My Parents” series, featuring recipes that are healthier, wholesome and gentler for our parents!

Why You Will Love These Healthier Banana Oat Chocolate Chip Muffins
- Easy to put together without any fancy equipment. You only need a mixing bowl, whisk, spatula and muffin tray
- Healthier in many ways, while still remaining tasty! The ripe bananas keep the muffins naturally moist, while the yoghurt adds tenderness. The oats and wholemeal flour add more dietary fibre and nutrients to the muffins, with much less sugar!
- Stores well for days, making it perfect for the everyday, such as breakfast or tea
Common Questions
- Q: Can I use rolled oats instead of quick oats?
A: Yes you can, but the muffins will have a chewier and more textured bites. For softer muffins, quick oats are preferred as they blend easily inot the batter and give a gentler texture. - Q: Can I reduce the chocolate chips?
A: Yes. You can use around 50g chocolate chips for a lighter muffin. However, for a more enjoyable and visually appealing muffin, I recommend using 80g to 100g. This keeps the base of the muffin wholesome, while making it feel satisfying.
I hope the above and the video help in making healthier yet equally tasty treats for the family! Let me know if you’ve any questions and without further ado, the recipe!
