Elevate the classics this Valentine’s with this heartfelt Heart Thumbprint Cookies! These are buttery cookies with a jammy centre for that burst of flavour. They’re also bite-sized and so easy to eat, and makes for a good display this Valentine’s. The best part? You can do them in no time!

Similar to the classic thumbprint cookies where you indent the centre of each cookie with your thumbprint, we will be doing the same to make these hearts! However, it is slightly tricker. Instead of using the entirety of your thumb, you would want to use the sides of your thumb. Doing so creates finer and more structured indents. Then, all you have to do is to create the left and right sides of the heart.
Of course, I do have a tip to make this simpler as well! What I’ve done is to refrigerate the dough for a short while so that the batter is sufficiently hardened to be moulded but yet not overly hard. Doing so will allow much more ease in creating these indents!
Thereafter, all you’ve to do is to fill the indents with your jam! This feels almost like science to me, because there are a few things you need to consider at this point.
Firstly, do not overfill beyond 3/4 of each cookie. Else, the jam will expand and spill out, potentially losing the heart shape as well, during the baking process. Secondly, I would recommend the use of jam instead of fruit preserves! I speak from experience here because preserves contain fruit chunks that make the heart centre less uniform in texture. Finally, be patient in creating the heart shapes! If it doesn’t work out, feel free to re-roll it again until it’s satisfactory!
As we all know and with Valentine’s, if you’re making these just for your love ones, this recipe’s portion is probably perfect for you as it makes about 12 cookies. However, and if you’re making this for gifting, feel free to multiply the recipe or even make smaller hearts so that there’s more to go around!
These Heart Thumbprint Cookies are one of my must bakes for Valentines, and I hope you will like this as much as I do.
Without further ado, the recipe.
