Nothing beasts the classic French Toast, until we meet this flavourful Matcha French Toast! Each bite is a delightful fusion of rich, creamy and earthy flavours with a contrast of crisp textures. I served mine with delightful scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream, a drizzle of honey, raspberries and a finishing touch of matcha powder dusting.
Each bite of this Matcha French Toast was truly addictive and heavenly!

The best part? It’s not rocket science to make these Matcha French Toasts. It’s almost like your standard french toast, and what you need would be good quality matcha powder! Then, simply apply some patience and whisk away to dissolve the matcha powder in the mixture.
To note, however, would be some of the techniques to be mindful of when cooking to achieve the best colourations and taste:
- Be mindful of heat – Try to cook at medium low heat or even low heat instead and to give time for these Matcha French Toast to cook. If you’re using too high heat, the Matcha will be oxidised to give a brown / bronzed finish. Hence, patience is key! This would apply to the duration of cooking as well.
- Egg mixture – If your matcha egg mixture ends up being slightly clumpy, it’s fine! If you do have time you can consider dissolving the matcha in warm milk first or even to go through a few rounds of sifting and smashing the powder at each juncture.
- Depth of Matcha Flavour – This will require a bit of experimenting and how much of matcha you would like! For the ingredient portions recipe, it is towards the bittersweet end, which I very much enjoy but I understand that it is subjected to personal preference too.
Without further ado, the recipe!
