One of my happiest works to date, these Fluffy Baked Donuts are modeled after one of my favourite snacks in childhood. At least locally in Singapore and perhaps Malaysia, you would be able to find donuts decorated with sprinkles and chocolate rice.
For myself, I always look forward to sinking my teeth into these soft and fluffy donuts. As such, I am really happy to have emulated these Fluffy Baked Donuts at home! While they are not exactly the same as the fried versions, I would say they’re equally enjoyable!
These Fluffy Baked Donuts are easy to assemble, and it’s practically a one-bowl recipe. The slightly more time consuming part, but the segment we most probably all enjoy, is the decoration of these donuts.
For myself, I have used coated these babies with melted chocolate before dipping them in sprinkles. The possibilities and combinations are limitless, and you could even take inspiration from local donut bakeries such as Krispy Kreme or Dunkin’ Donuts. I am pretty sure you would have a blast planning these!
While these are simple to make, I have filmed a video tutorial for the benefit of everyone who’s curious about the exact steps and for beginners. Do note that the images and mould I am using of the fluffy baked donuts are slightly smaller than the average donut, so you might have to adjust accordingly.
Without further ado, the recipe!

Fluffy Baked Donuts Recipe
by Javier Tan October-02-2021
These Fluffy Baked Donuts are modeled after the soft donuts in the local bakeries of Singapore, with sprinkles reminiscent of childhood!
Ingredients (For Donuts)
- 1 and 1/2 Cup + 2 Tablespoons, or 200g of All-Purpose / Plain / Cake Flour, sifted
- 1/3 Cup or 80g of Granulated Sugar (If you’re eating them plain, add 100g sugar)
- 2 Teaspoons or 8g of Baking Powder, sifted
- 2 Large Eggs, approx 55g each incl. shell
- 1 Teaspoon or 5ml of Vanilla Essence
- 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons or 40g of Vegetable Oil, Flavourless
- 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons or 40g of Butter, Melted
- 1/2 Cup or 120ml of Milk, Room Temperature
Ingredients (Suggested Toppings)
- 3/4 Cup or 160g of Chocolates, Melted
- Approx. 1/4 Cup of Sprinkles
Instructions
- Pre-heat your oven to 200 degrees C or 400F.
- In a large mixing bowl, mix together the vegetable oil, melted butter, 2 eggs and vanilla.
- Then, combine the sifted dry ingredients with sugar in a separate bowl.
- Whisk in half the milk, then followed by half the flour. Do so twice, and for the final stage, you can try folding to ensure all the dry ingredients are well-incorporated. The batter should be clumpy.
- Oil the donut pan with flavourless vegetable oil and fill them halfway full. If they’re over filled, they will look more like scones (speaking from experience here!).
- Bake for 8 – 12 minutes or until golden brown and the doughnuts have slightly retracted from the pan.
- Unmould and wait for these to cool before decorating.
- Serve and enjoy!

Hi Xavier, Do I need to add anything to melt the chocolate ?
Hey Wendy! Thanks for dropping by my blog.
For melting of chocolate, usually I do not add anything. However, you have to be very careful of the heat. If you want it as a glaze, usually it’s okay to melt using a double boiler method. However, if you want it to be able to harden after it settles, you can read up on the tempering of chocolate (this is a very technical way of doing it).
Finally, you can also consider something that’s rich such as the Chocolate Ganache glaze!https://bakeomaniac.com/chocolate-ganache-recipe/
Hi Javier. Where do you purchase the donut pan ?
Hey Valerie, I actually bought them from a few places!
I got them from Wheat Marketing, and I believe Redman too. I also came across one at Carousell. I use quite a variety of donut pans :p They all look like they’re the same size though!
