I present you today a savoury twist to my classic breads: Pizza Dinner Rolls! These bread rolls are easy to make, with little time and effort as long as you possess the fundamental knowledge of bread making.
A few savoury components are used for these Pizza Dinner Rolls. Some of these ingredients include mixed herbs, red pepper flakes, black pepper and cheese. Furthermore, I also added an additional glaze of garlic infused butter to create a harmony of flavours.
Although I have hardly baked savoury items, I have always wanted to try. Part of what that encouraged me to do is from my discovery of Tillamook cheeses, which are now available in Singapore. I stumbled across their cheeses and am a huge fan of their smoked black pepper and colby jack shred, both of which I used in this recipe.
Nonetheless, you can feel free to substitute the using cheeses that are melty and reamy such as mozzarella. Furthermore, feel free to customize this savoury Pizza Dinner Rolls with your preference. Some examples include topping the Pizza Dinner Rolls with pizza tomato paste and parsley!
With these ideas in mind, I present you the recipe for these Pizza Dinner Rolls!

Ingredients
For Bread:
- 2 and 1/8 Cups or 270g of Bread Flour + extra for flouring surfaces
- 2 Tablespoon or 25g of Caster / White Sugar
- 1 and 1/2 Teaspoons or 7g Instant Dry Yeast
- 3/4 Teaspoon or 4g Table Salt
- 1 Large Egg, Room Temperature, 55g each
- 1/2 Cup or 120ml of Milk
- 3 Tablespoons or 45g Unsalted Butter, Melted
- 1/4 Cup or 60ml of Water
- Mixed Herbs, Pepper, Red Pepper Flakes, Cheese (to taste)
- Olive oil (optional) or Garlic Buter (Cook garlic in melted butter and infuse)
Instructions
- Mix together the bread flour, sugar and salt. Then, mix in the yeast.
- Then, in a separate bowl, mix together the wet ingredients (milk, water, egg and melted butter).
- To another small saucepan, melt the softened butter at low heat.
- Add in half of the wet mixture into the large bowl containing the dry ingredients and knead using a dough hook attachment at high speed for 1 min 30 seconds or until clumps can be observed.
- Mix in the remaining half and knead well for another 6-7 minutes at medium high speed. Once done, the dough will pass the windowpane test.
- Transfer the dough to a large bowl and sprinkle some water on top of the dough. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and proof for an hour.
- Once doubled in size, poke and deflate the bread.
- Then, knead again for 2 – 3 minutes before portioning it into about 10 – 12 dinner rolls.
- Proof again for about 20 – 40 minutes or until the dinner rolls are about x1.5 to x2 their size.
- In the meanwhile, preheat your oven to 180 degrees C or 350F and oil the base of your baking tin with butter or olive oil.
- Once the dinner rolls are ready, brush gently with melted butter and top with your desired ingredients. For me it was pepper, chilli flakes, shredded cheese and mixed herbs.
- Then, bake for about 16 – 20 minutes. For a melty finish, top it off with extra cheese and bake it for an additional couple more minutes.
- Serve and enjoy!
