Celebrate the festive holidays with your love ones with this interactive and comforting dish – Cheesy Pull Apart Christmas Bread! Each bite comes with a fluffy mini bread infused with herbs, and stuffed with a gooey, melted block of your favourite cheese. Naturally, this is best served warm and I like it with a honey dip for a touch of sweetness!

One of my favourite aspects of this Cheesy Pull Apart Bread is also how it’s so easy to make! Simply mix all the ingredients together and knead, and you can get a really fluffy and savoury bun – just look at all that bread stretch on top of that cheese stretch! I assure any beginners as well that this is a rather foolproof recipe to make. Otherwise, you can refer to the video too and ask away!

Another aspect of these amazing Cheesy Pull Apart Bread is also how savoury it is, and how it’s hard to go wrong! It has such a nice mixture of flavours and textures especially with the gooey cheese core, making it a perfect side dish. For myself, I alternate the cheeses within the pull apart bread so as to keep my love ones or guests in surprise!

Most importantly, make sure to save this warm or heat it up a little for a few minutes at low heat to get the cheese all gooey again. Pssst.. soft cheeses are perfect here!

Without further ado, the recipe.

Cheesy Pull Apart Bread Recipe
by Javier Tan November-24-2024

This Cheesy Pull Apart Bread makes for an interactive, delicious and cheesy snack for any gatherings. Perfect for celebrations!

Ingredients

  • 2 and 1/2 Cup or 300g of Plain Flour
  • 1 and 1/3 Cup or 150g of Bread Flour
  • 1 Tbspn + 1 Tsp or 20g of White Sugar
  • 3/4 Tsp or 4.5g of Table Salt
  • 2 and 1/2 Tsp of Instant Dry Yeast (strongly recommended to weigh)
  • 1 and 1/3 Cup or 315ml of Water (up to 355ml)
  • 2 Tbspns or 30ml of Olive Oil, for greasing
  • At least 250g of soft / medium soft cheeses, cubed (e.g. Sierra Nevada Garlic & Herb Creamy Jack Cheese)
  • 1 Egg + choice of herbs / pepper for Egg Wash
  • (Optional) Honey – as dip

Instructions

  1. Firstly, mix together plain flour, bread flour, sugar and salt. Then, mix in the yeast.
  2. Next, mix in the water and hand / machine knead until the dough no longer sticks to the base of the bowl, best to use the windowpane test by taking a ball of dough and stretching it as per the video!
  3. Transfer the dough to a well-oiled (using olive oil) large bowl and sprinkle water on top of it. Cover and leave to proof until doubled in size, approx an hour. In the meanwhile, chop up the cheeses!
  4. Deflate the dough and using 25g of dough for each ball, flatten and place in a cube of cheese before rolling it up. Piece together a desired shape on a tray with parchment paper – I chose a Christmas tree! Let the dough rise a little further by 10 minutes after the last bread is placed, in the meanwhile, preheat your oven to 180C.
  5. Apply an egg wash with herbs and pepper if desired, and bake at 180C for 21 – 24 mins or until nicely golden brown.
  6. Serve and enjoy – best eaten warm or with a honey dip!
