Being a foodie comes hand-in-hand with an active lifestyle to burn off all that calories! For myself, I work out at least twice per week (striving for three per week) for gymming and to keep myself lean and fit. During my exercise journey, I always find new ways to incorporate protein into my diet and this includes my Workout Protein Brownies, which provides an amazing 7g of protein per slice (total of 84g for the entire batch of brownies).
Why is protein essential, you may ask? Protein intake helps in muscle recovery, prevents muscle breakdown and help to build new muscles. As such, it is very important to have sufficient protein in our diets especially if you workout often.
With that in mind, I developed these Workout Protein Brownies that are so easy to make while being both nutritious and delicious. Naturally, this means the addition of sugar and fats (in terms of butter). However, to serve the main purpose of being workout friendly and helpful, I limited the amount of sugar and fats as compared to what we usually use for an indulgent fudgy brownie.
And… how do we derive 84g of protein in these brownies?
- 36g of protein (from 1.5 scoops of protein powder)
- 22g of protein (from unsweetened peanut butter)
- 12g of protein (from 2 eggs)
- 8g of protein (from dark chocolate)
- 6g of protein (from cocoa powder)
From here, we can see that bumping up the protein content in brownies is quite do-able. However, I would need to caveat that these Workout Protein Brownies, while they do taste good for a nutritious food item, they’re not indulgent or sinful. As such, if you’re looking for something to fix that fudgy brownie craving of yours, I would suggest you to give this a miss!
By the way, you can find my original Workout Protein Brownies (version 1) recipe here as well, that allows you to have a fudgier brownie (with protein, but less).
Without further ado, the recipe!

A batch of these Workout Protein Brownies comes with a whooping 84g of protein (or 7g per slice). Say hello to more protein in your diet!

- 1/4 Cup or 60g of Unsalted Butter
- Approx 1/2 Cup + 2 Tbspns or 120g of Dark Chocolate
- 1/4 Cup or 50g of Sugar
- 2 Large Eggs, aprpox 60g ea, weigh including shell
- 1 Tsp or 5ml of Vanilla Essence
- 1/3 Cup or 30g of Cocoa Powder
- Approx 1.5 scoops of Chocolate Protein Powder, 45g (Note: the more protein powder you use the drier the brownies may become!)
- (Optional) 2 Tsps or 10g of Plain Flour
- Approx 1/2 Cup or 90 – 100g of Unsweetened Peanut Butter
Instructions
- Firstly, melt the butter and chocolate together at low-heat until well-incorporated.
- Set aside to cool. Once cooled, whisk in the two eggs, vanilla and sugar.
- Then, fold in the dry ingredients (cocoa powder, protein powder, and flour). I would suggest giving the flour a miss if you prefer your brownies to be on the fudgier end,
- Transfer the batter to your 8 inch baking tray lined with parchment paper. Then, swirl in your unsweetened peanut butter (Do not overmix).
- Bake at 160C for 20 – 22 minutes (lower end for fudgier finish).
- Serve and enjoy.
